Pictured is an award we earned at a Mobile Beat disc jockey convention in Cleveland Ohio. We also received the same award in Las Vegas at two other Mobile Beat disc jockey conventions. It states that we are “DJ All-Stars” and it means we excel in group interaction and audience participation. The story, in short, is that we were invited to demonstrate our interactive talents to over a thousand disc jockeys from this country and others at the largest DJ conventions in the USA. At the end of each show, they presented us with this plaque.
This award is something we’re very proud of since it shows that our company stands out from others. Most companies don’t offer much personal interaction, let alone something that is out of the ordinary. We have many unique tricks of the trade that drastically set us apart from our competitors. Whether its dances, games or funny one-liners, these acquired skills are completely original and if you allow us, we can utilize them throughout your event. You never know when these skills will come in handy, but when the time comes, you’ll be so glad your DJ had them.
Let me share a true story. I personally have done many events, but one in particular stands out. It was a spring reception and I was set-up early awaiting the arrival of the guests. The Master & Mistress of ceremonies arrived a half hour earlier than everyone else. In our conversation, they told me I would have an early night because most of the guests don’t dance. I wondered to myself, “Why would the bride & groom spend so much money to have me there if the party was going to end early?” So I eagerly anticipated the arrival of the guests to see what I was going to be working with.
As the 200+ guests arrived, they seemed like any other fun group. I decided that the best way to find out if they were going to dance was to ask them. During dinner, I made my way around to every table to find out what type of music they wanted to dance to. Many of the guests confirmed what the Master & Mistress of ceremonies already told me – they don’t dance! There was no doubt that this party was definitely going to be a challenge. I wasn’t going to accept defeat, however. When all the formalities were done, I put my talents to work. I incorporated more group involvement at this party than any other before. I never forced anyone on the dance floor, but simply encouraged them to participate (sometimes by using peer pressure!). I had practically everyone on the dance floor, all night long, with nothing but cheers, laughter, smiles and excitement.
At the end of the evening, the bride and groom each gave me a huge hug, and with beaming smiles, told me they knew I was the right person for the job. Their guests thanked me repeatedly for the best party ever! Finally, the Master & Mistress of ceremonies approached me. They were so impressed! They exuberantly told me that I had guests dancing that they had never seen dance before. I was on cloud nine. You couldn’t have wiped the “perma-grin” off my face if you’d tried!
I didn’t tell you this story to boast about myself but rather to show you that group involvement, in many cases, is the difference between a successful event or a short-lived party. If it hadn’t been for my group participation talents, their party would have been done way early, and I probably wouldn’t have received nearly as many compliments.
