What is a Karaoke Host? The definition of karaoke stems back to a Japanese origin meaning “empty orchestra” [Kara = void or empty + oke (sutora) = orchestra. Karaoke music is a studio re-creation of original songs by a group of musicians, minus the vocalists. Once this music is created, it gets matched with lyrics (that will be displayed on a tv screen), and then put on a compact disc. The final product is a cd+g (“g” represents graphics) that will play the music while simultaneously displaying the song lyrics on a screen, which are highlighted in time with the original lead singer, so that you know exactly when the lyrics are to be sung. If you can read, you can sing!
A karaoke host (also known as a karaoke jockey or KJ) is a person that:
Passes out karaoke song books with request slips and pencils to potential singers.
Explains how to make a karaoke song selection.
Starts a party out by demonstrating how karaoke works.
Rotates singers so that everyone gets an equal chance to sing.
Knows how to adjust the music and microphone volumes, while adding echo and reverb, to enhance the vocals of each individual singer.
Creates a fun, relaxed atmosphere for singers to sing karaoke and enjoy themselves.
Michigan Pro DJs owns 5 computerized karaoke systems that have over 13,000 songs stored on each. Karaoke offers average people the opportunity to Karaoke Singers get up and sing songs from their favorite stars in front of their peers. It’s more about the fun, rather than about singing really well. As an added bonus, since our karaoke hosts are also disc jockeys, we play original recorded music in-between singers as a filler, so that there’s never any dead air. Also, you may want your DJ to mix it up a bit: some karaoke and some dancing. No problem! That’s what makes us so unique is that you can have the best of both worlds!
